These scammers are posing as property owners, often targeting vacant land or vacant homes, and attempting to sell these properties as if they are the rightful owners. In some cases, they will take the process all the way to closing.
Key Points to Remember:
- Verify Ownership: Always ensure that the person you are communicating with is the legitimate owner of the property.
- Utilize Title Company Resources: Work closely with the title company to verify all seller information.
- Be Vigilant: Scammers can be very convincing. The best defense is to have direct, verified communication with the seller. Whenever possible, meet in person or use video conferencing to confirm identities.
Reminder: These individuals are crafty and highly fraudulent. It’s crucial to stay alert and ensure that all due diligence is performed to protect our clients and our business.
